How coins work in Lexora, explained honestly

Most puzzle games ship a fixed library: a few thousand crosswords written years ago, shuffled and served forever. Lexora doesn't work that way. When you type a topic, a language model writes that puzzle for you on the spot — the clues, the answers, the grid. Nobody has ever played it before.

That difference is the reason coins exist. A pre-written puzzle costs nothing to serve for the ten-thousandth time. A freshly generated one costs something every single time. The coin economy is how we keep generation sustainable without putting a paywall in front of the game.

What coins actually buy

Coins are Lexora's single in-game currency. You spend them on four things, and nothing else:

There is no separate gem currency, no energy timer that refills while you sleep, and no way to lose coins you already own. What you earn stays earned.

Why a quiz costs double a crossword

This is the question we get most, and the answer is refreshingly boring: quizzes cost us more to make.

A crossword about Ancient Egypt draws on knowledge the model already has. A quiz about a film that came out three weeks ago does not — so for topics like that, Lexora searches the live web before writing your questions. That search is the difference between a quiz with confidently wrong answers and a quiz you can trust. It roughly triples the cost of generating that round.

We could have hidden that by charging 30 coins for everything and quietly making quizzes worse. Charging what each thing actually costs seemed more honest, and it means the quiz you get is the accurate one.

The free tier: what you get for nothing

Every player, signed in or not, gets 2 free AI generations every day. No ads, no coins, no account required — open the app, type a topic, play.

That resets on a rolling 24-hour window, so if you play at 8pm tonight your next free generations arrive at 8pm tomorrow rather than at some arbitrary midnight.

Earning coins without paying

Beyond the daily freebies, there are four ways to get coins without opening your wallet:

• Watch a rewarded ad — 10 coins per completed video, with no daily limit.
• Finish puzzles — every completion pays out, and harder difficulties pay more.
• Keep a daily streak — streak milestones and the daily challenge both award coins.
• Spin the wheel — one free spin a day, with coin rewards on most segments.

Two rewarded ads cover a word puzzle; four cover a quiz. And because there's no daily cap on ads, a free player who wants to keep going can keep going — the two free generations are a floor, not a ceiling.

Buying coins, and what Premium changes

If you'd rather not watch ads, coin packs are available through Google Play. They're structured so the bigger the pack, the more coins you get per unit of money — the smallest pack is an impulse top-up, and the value curve climbs steadily from there. Prices vary by region; your local price is always shown in the shop before you confirm anything.

Premium (we call it Gold) is the other route. It raises your daily generation allowance dramatically, removes ads entirely, and routes your puzzles through our highest-quality model — noticeably better clues, and sharper quiz questions. It's available weekly, monthly or yearly, plus a one-time lifetime unlock.

What we don't do

• No energy meters that stop you playing puzzles you already own.
• No coins expiring, and no balance resets.
• No pay-to-win — coins buy generations and hints, never a better score.
• No forced ads between every level. Rewarded ads are opt-in, always.

Your coin balance, streak and progress live on our servers, not just on your phone — so a new device or a reinstall doesn't wipe them. If you played as a guest first, your progress migrates across the moment you make an account.
